After an Earthquake, Sony Closed Its Camera Sensor Factory in Japan

An earthquake that occurred in the southern part  of Japan last week made Sony closed its factory that located in Kumamoto. The plant produced CMOS image sensors to the smartphone's camera, which is one of its clients is Apple.

The company will close its factory to find out how big the impact of the quake on the production facilities. Besides in Kumamoto, Sony also forced to do the same in another factory which is located in Nagasaki. The plant is also engaged in the production of image sensors smartphone.

So far, Sony still has no timetable for the resumption of production activities. Although some factories closed, it does not mean that Sony stopped sending orders CMOS image sensor. The company still has the stock of sensor to be delivered to its clients. According to a spokesman for Sony, the existing inventory is still sufficient to meet market orders.

The spokesman also said, Sony will make additional announcements, if any delay in delivery of goods. Sony, he said, hoping the entire plant affected by the earthquake will be back in operation as soon as possible. Currently Sony owns 40 percent of the global market for CMOS image sensor business. Long disturbances that occur are expected to have a major impact on the production of smartphones.
